THE LOST SYNAGOGUES OF LONDON
by Peter Renton

This profusely illustrated and sympathetically written book reviews the history of London's synagogues from medieval times through the Readmission of Jews to England to the present day.  It records, from their beginnings to eventual demise, the congregational histories of those synagogues that because of Jewish population movement no longer had a constituency to serve.  It is a much needed and long awaited addition to the historiography of Anglo-Jewry.

'Dr Renton's book has an impressive array of old photographs ... and fascinating details about chazanim ...A pleasingly designed and liberally illustrated volume ...thoroughly to be recommended for making the vanishing architectural heritage of British Jewry better known'. Dr Sharman Kadish in Jerusalem Post.

Dr Peter Renton was Consultant Radiologist at University College Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College, London.  He made a habit of collecting every book he could find on synagogues and synagogue architecture, and was a self-confessed synagogue addict.
