Like the first volume, the Jewish Victorian 1861-1870 contains all of the births, marriages and deaths that were published in the Jewish newspapers of the decade. It also includes obituaries, messages of condolence, wills, unusual deaths, awards received, gifts given, examinations passed, and news items of notes relating to named individuals.

The Jewish Victorian includes details of the fight against cholera, and the part played by the Jewish Lord Mayor. It includes the dastardly murders of Louis Kyezor, known as 'the King of Whitton', and Barnett Zusman, a poor commercial traveller. You will be able to read about the enticement of Esther Lyons from her home and the attempts of her father to get her returned. There was a blackmail attempt on the house of Rothschild and the tragic death of Evalina de Rothschild in childbirth. You can read about the missions Sir Moses Montefiore to Morocco, the Holy Land, and Roumania and the sad demise of Judith, Lady Montefiore. There was an action for slander against the Chief Rabbi and an argument caused by his non-attendance at a communal funeral. You can read about the death that led to the founding of the Chatham Memorial Synagogue and details of an important libel action. There were unfortunate suicides and tragic accidents, communal arguments and sad deaths. There was a disputed deathbed religious conversion, details of the first Jewish pupil at Dulwich College and a fight by the first Jewish Wrangler for academic recognition.
